Meet Al

I would like to introduce myself so that you understand my motivations for writing "Pruning the Fourth Branch" and promoting the reform of Administrative Law.

Who I Am

I am a lifelong businessman who started, ran, and still owns a computer software and consulting company that mainly served Fortune 1000 companies. I am an entrepreneur who strongly believes in the American system of Free Enterprise. I am also an investor in small-format real estate. My real estate investments were my personal retirement plan—a good one until recently.

Errant actions on the part of our Federal Government have created immense difficulties and huge losses for many of my friends and colleagues and for me. The kindest thoughts I can muster toward our leadership in Washington DC is: “What are they thinking?”. Less generous thoughts question their motives. I, like many Americans, am no longer content to watch helplessly while the country I love and the way of life I hoped my children and grandchildren might inherit from our generation are destroyed.

Time Magazine, 1994 Republican Victory

I have been involved as a volunteer in political campaigns (including the big Republican win in 1994, in which I worked as a volunteer for Steve Stockman in TX-9 and helped defeat Jack Brooks, one of the most powerful men in Congress. I served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. I have seen our country slide ever closer to that point from which there is no return and no way to avoid the loss of our liberties and a future of tyranny for our children.

Military Service

I served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1969. I was enlisted. I was trained as a Titan II (ICBM) Missile Electircal Specialist. I was a rather typical GI, complaining every day, but I also designed and built a new piece of test equipment that saved the Air Force hundreds of hours and millions of dollars and, most importantly, days of down time for on-alert SAC weapons systems. Our country was not generally appreciative of our service when I was discharged in 1969. Seeing how Liberalism could turn citzens of our country against their own sons and daughters coming back from war left an indelible impression on me.

Politically Correct?

Political correctness is a means to stifle free speech, which is guaranteed to us in the First Amendment. Rather than beimg concerned about my political correctness in what I say, I will be focused on Constitutional Correctness in what I do.

Religion

I am a Christian. I was baptised Lutheran as a child; but now attend Watermark Community Church in Dallas. I have also been comfortable attending, or being a member of, various other Christian churches of several denominations over the years. My children attend Trinity Christian Academy.

I strongly believe that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that The Bible instructed nearly all of the Founding Fathers in their thinking. I believe that the Liberty we cherish in our great nation is possible only for a People who share the morals and values taught by Christianity and Judaism. I believe that a fundamental cause for the malaise we find our country in is the decay of those morals and values in our population.

“...Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith...
...America is great, because she is good. And if America ever ceases to be good America will cease to be great.” —Alexis de Tocqueville

The 2012 election is probably the most important election of our lifetimes. It will determine whether our great country slides irretrievably into an abyss of statism or regains the greatness it used to have. We see many encouraging signs; but if we do not all work together we can lose all the gains we have made and shut out any future chance to recover. NOW is the time we MUST act. We need you with us! We need you to be a part of this historic movement. Just electing Conservatives is not sufficient to save our country. A fundamental change to the very structure of our government has enabled Statist government officials to ignore the Constitution. We MUST reform the body of law that made such a corruption or our government possible.

“If your definition of Liberty now includes the freedom to not defend it, it will soon become the freedom to do as your rulers command.” —me

Al Lee at Ronald Reagan Inaugural Ball

Al Lee tickets to Ronald Reagan Inaugural Ball 1981

In 1994 we won a massive victory for Conservatives in Congress. Unfortunately, we then sat back and rested on our laurels. In the years to follow, while we relaxed and enjoyed the thrill of victory, the foe whittled away relentlessly until that conservative House of Representatives we elected became as corrupted and as dismissive of our interests as the people they replaced not long before. This time is different! We will not sit back and relax. We will take advantage of the position we gain in the elections to correct the fundamental flaw that was built into our federal government nearly a century ago. Eternal vigilance is what is called for and that is what we will give.

Ronald Reagan Inaugural Ball

One of the highlights of my life was attending Ronald Reagan”s Inaugural Ball in 1981 (see photos above). I brought a couple of employees who shared my excitement for the election results.

I was thrilled by the symbolism of Reagan winning. I did not even imagine he would be able to accomplish as much as he did during his terms. You can imagine how thrilled I was by that. It showed me that if you are steadfast in your principles and courageous enough to stay the course, people will follow you and you will eventually prevail. I have called three people heros in my lifetime:

  • President Ronald Reagan (Listen)
  • Lt. Col Oliver North (Semper Fi!)
  • Lt. Col. Allen West (Listen)
Al Lee Rush Limbaugh Dans Bake Sale
Dan's Bake Sale

In 1993 some friends and I flew to Fort Collins, Colorado to attend “Dan’s Bake Sale”—another great memory of a very inspiring event. Being surrounded by 80,000 true conservatives and even briefly listening to Rush Limbaugh’s inspiring words is something I won’t forget. Here is the Ft. Collins newspaper I have preserved (for over 18 years so far) as a memento. Then, in 1994, to make it even better, we got one of those friends, Steve Stockman, elected to Congress.

Supporting Conservative Candidates

This is a photo taken at a fund raiser I helped organize for Scott Armey, son of Dick Armey, when he ran for Congress in 2002. My good friend, William J. Murray, founder of “Religious Freedom Coalition” and other conservative organizations, spoke at the event. Bill and I

Al Lee, Scott Armey, William J. Murray

became friends in the mid-1980’s when I joined in his “Freedom’s Friends” projects to bring humanitarian aid to victims of communism.

I have contributed to and volunteered for many campaigns. I have been a phone caller, block walker, and even poll watcher. I made calls to help Scott Brown in Massachusetts. I was a First Day Founder for Fred Thompson. I supported and raised money for Ollie North’s Defense Fund.

We will be working tirelessly to win this battle for reform. We want you with us!
